A COMBINATION of cakes and free flu jabs were a winning combination at a fete organised to keep people healthy over the winter months.

GPs and nurses at great Bedwyn surgery discovered that by turning the often daunting task of getting a winter flu jab done into a fun day out, many people were happy to take part.

The Flu and fete day included a tombola, games and a raffle to take patients minds of the nurse's needle as they received their annual flu jab.

Around 300 people benefitted from the day and £1500 was also raised for Wiltshire air Ambulance.

Keith Marshall- practice manager said: “ A couple of patients were very kind in displaying vintage vehicles, in the form of a 1912 Vintage Triumph H motorcycle, AC Cobra, Austin7, convertible Alvis and an Austin Martin DB9. As you might imagine dads and lads found this part of the event particularly interesting.

“The morning was a huge success, with patients, villagers and passers by mingling on the front lawn for a cup of tea and cake.

“Bedwyn Surgery would like to thank everyone who supported the event and dug deep.”

The fete took place on September 23 at the surgery on Church Street in Great Bedwyn.
