PORK pie lovers Jen Dalton and John Whalley have completed their cycle ride from one end of Britain to the other and raise more than £5,000 for charity.

The friends from Seend, near Devizes, took on the challenge or riding 969 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats and both have already beaten their fundraising targets with money still coming in.

The pair who are members of Seend Pork Pie Cycling Club and admit they are more at home having a pint and a pie than undertaking excessive exercise, have been praised by friends and family who followed their exploits on social media.

Mr Whalley was raising money for Macmillan Cancer Research and Ms Dalton for the Vodafone Foundation which funds projects which use mobile communication technologies to bring education, support and disaster relief to affected communities around the world.

So far Mr Whalley's fundraising page shows he has raised £2,208.90 while Ms Dalton's stands at £3,085.

Mr Whalley has lost two close family members to cancer and he wanted to raise money for Macmillan as his way of saying thank you to all of those who have offered care and support.

Ms Dalton, who is employed by Vodafone, is an avid traveller and wants to raise money for the firm's work to help refugees who are displaced from their homes.

Mr Whalley said: "Before this we were probably more at home drinking a cider in a sunny beer garden somewhere, than cycling across the country."

Ms Dalton, 41, said she was keen to raise money to help refugees. She said: "We are all human beings and no matter where we come from, we should all have a good chance at life. Most of us are probably quite fortunate and very lucky to have never experienced the atrocities we see around the world - something we should always be thankful for."
