TWO women from Malmesbury are taking on the gruelling challenge of cycling 450km through Vietnam and Cambodia at the beginning of next year, in aid of three cancer charities very close to their heart.
Bron Maclennan 68, of Mill Lane and Diana Boulton, 64 of Gloucester Road aim to raise £1800 each before they embark on their journey to support CLIC Sargent, Children with Cancer UK, and Teenage Cancer Trust.
On Saturday, September 30, they will be holding their final fundraiser to reach their target.
Their major fundraising attempt is a dance, which will be held in Malmesbury Town Hall for all to attend, and will feature the legendary Dubious Brothers, a dance band also from Malmesbury.
Mrs Maclennan said: “These wonderful charities are real life lines and give so much support to everyone involved, so we do hope many local residents will support what we promise will be a fantastic evening.
The charities are close to Mrs Maclennan's heart, as her youngest son, who is now 35, was diagnosed with Leukaemia when he was four-years-old.
"CLIC made it so much better than it ever could have been", she said
Ms Boulton, a former headteacher, said the issue was also close to her heart.
The dance will take place at Malmesbury Town Hall, with all money raised being split between the three charities. Tickets cost £15 and can be purchased at the Persephone Violet Flower Shop in Malmesbury High Street, or through www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/bronmaclennan1 or www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/dianaboulton1. There will also be an auction, with all proceeds going to charity.
