GRANDAD Bruce Hopkins hopes an appearance on one of the country's best listened to radio stations will help push his fundraising for Prostate Cancer over £11,000.

Mr Hopkins, 69, from Patney, near Devizes is to appear on the show of his friend Asa Murphy who has a huge following on his Sunday show on Radio Merseyside in Liverpool.

Mr Murphy, who is known as the king of swing, has performed in Devizes with Mr Hopkins on a number of occasions and has developed a soft spot for the town.

He will be back in Devizes for a show in the Corn Exchange on December 16 when he will sing with both Mr Hopkins and his granddaughter Athena Hopkins, 10, who is a pupil at St Joseph's primary in Devizes.

Mr Hopkins, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago, has already raised around £10,000 for research into the disease and hopes the December concert will add at least another £1,000.

He said: "I will be on Asa's show on October 29 and I hope it will help to generate extra interest in the Devizes concert. Asa has a huge following. There are 220 tickets and we have already sold about 170."

Tickets cost £20 and are available from Devizes Fine Kitchens or by ringing 01380 848146 or 01380 721772.
