CHIPPENHAM Male Voice Choir is looking for a new conductor after their current one announced he was looking to hand over the baton after more than 37 years at the helm.

The choir, which has more than 50 members and sings in four parts, has begun its quest to find a new and younger conductor to replace their talented musician Bob Jones.

"We are looking to find a successor for Bob to take over the reigns and continue the Choir’s traditional relaxed approach to music making," chairman Elfryn Humphreys said. "At the same time, encourage the choir members to take on his or her own style, so that the choir is able to maintain and expand its current successful concert repertoire for the future."

The new conductor will have to be patient though as the choir, which meets at St Peter's Church in Frogwell every Monday evening, is comprised of members of all abilities including some who do not read music.

Mr Humphrey's added: "Our style is very informal and unregimented, we welcome participants from all abilities, with some experience and none, we do not require new members to audition, and most do not read music. All we require is that choir members join to enjoy the experience of singing and performing together with good humour , and to give enjoyment and entertainment to our audiences."

Anyone interested in applying for the position should call the choir's chairman Elfryn Humphreys on 01249 654450 or email ejh8mont@tiscali.co.uk.
