OSCAR winning actor Eddie Redmayne caused a bit of a stir when he popped into a village pub for a barbecue on Sunday.

Mr Redmayne, who is a friend of Chippy Day who owns The George & Dragon in Rowde, near Devizes and was happy to pose for pictures with some of the pub's regulars.

Mr Day said: "We were all delighted when my friend Eddie Redmayne dropped over to join us for the BBQ. After couple delicious burgers Eddie very kindly had some photos with the young ladies and kids of Rowde.

"He was such a charmer and happily chatted to the locals. He is currently filming the next instalment of Harry Potter spin-off in various Wiltshire locations."

Mr Redmayne won an academy award for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and in 2016 was Newt Scamander in the fantasy film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them written by J K Rowling.

Mr Day, who for many years worked for the Soho House chain of private member clubs and hotels, has many friends in show business circles.

But his main concern these days is The George & Dragon which has now added an outside dining area. He said: "We were very lucky with the weather for the barbecue on Sunday and it was lovely that Eddie could drop by."
