PEOPLE in north ward of Devizes Town Council, who went to the polls yesterday, have voted Devizes Guardian Christine Gay onto the council.
She polled 358 votes with Conservative Iain Wallis in second with 271 and Labour's Laura Naylor in third place with 237 votes. A total of 869 ballot papers were issued which represented a 26.59 per cent turnout. Three papers were spoilt.
The by-election was called after Guardian Nay Britton, who won a town council seat at the main election in May, was found not to have been eligible to stand because of a police conviction.
