AFTER Box Primary's leavers party was rained off by the awful summer weather, an Indian restaurant stepped up to the mark to rescue the event and save the Year 6's from an afternoon of disappointment.

The year group were absolutely delighted to discover that their desperate pleas for help on Friday were answered by the Bengal Bear on the High Street, who threw open their doors hours earlier than normal to put on a banquet for the 28 children, parents and staff.

Mum Katy Seager, who helped organise the event, said: "The big leavers party was rained off but the Bengal Bear has stepped up and has offered to do us a little banquet for the kids before they go off for a swim. They are such a tight knit group of children and what was going to be such a washed out day has been completely turned round for them.

"The Bengal Bear have really gone above and beyond to open up early for us, it is absolutely amazing and we would love to thank them."

Azal Uddin, the manager of the restaurant, added: "We have arranged for them to have a banquet at a very discounted price because they are the future of our village and the future of our community and we wanted to support them and encourage them to celebrate their achievements."
