AN INQUEST has been opened into the deaths of two men who died when their light aircraft crashed into fields in Brimslade, near Marlborough. Paul Gunnell and Gordon Davies were both experienced pilots.

Coroner’s officer Paul Tranter, said: “An inquest has been opened but is in its very early stages. The coroner will now be making many more enquires into the circumstances before a full inquest is held.”

Tributes to Mr Gunnell, from Guernsey and Mr Davis, from Elmore, Gloucester were posted online by family and friends from the flying community following the crash which took place at around 6.25pm on July 13.

The fixed wing self-motor glider involved in the crash had been owned by Mr Davis and records from the Civil Aviation Authority showed that he had owned the plane since 2006.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch, which is investigating the incident, has not yet established who was flying the plane at the time of the crash and confirmed that their investigation was ongoing.
