MALMESBURY has launched a new challenge for the summer holidays in which local people and visitors can spot models and images of hares and other small animals to be in with a chance of winning an art kit.

The 2017 Malmesbury Hare and Animal Trail was launched Tuesday, July 18, by the town council and is running alongside the wider Cotswold Hare Trail.

Nine of Malmesbury’s decorated hares – both big and small – form part of the Cotswold trail, but there are also 11 animal images dotted about the town on signs, shops and doors. Those who complete the trail and return their map to the tourist information centre will be entered into a prize draw to win a mosaic art kit.

Town councillor and deputy mayor Fran Vandelli said: “The summer is an important time for local traders and community groups and we want to ensure visitors and families get to see everything Malmesbury has to offer.

“Thanks to the brilliant artists who painted the hares, local businesses who have sponsored them and the many community organisations, businesses and residents whose animal images feature in the trail.”

Free trail maps are available now from the tourist information centre in Malmesbury Town Hall, which is where the trail begins.

The council will also be holding free recycled art workshops at the town for young people aged 11 and over. The workshops will run from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday, August 9, and Wednesday, August 16.
