HEADTEACHER at Cherhill Primary School, Terry Hall, is leaving this summer after more than 10 years at the school.

Mrs Hall, who took the helm at the village school in January 2007, bade farewell to her pupils and colleagues at a leaving assembly last Friday, July 21.

Mrs Hall, 55, said: “It’s a bit overwhelming to be leaving – I’ve been at Cherhill for more than 10 years and have done a lot of work, which will be hard to leave behind.

“My time here has been an absolute joy and I’ve loved every minute of it. It has been a hard journey but I’ve had fantastic staff and governors who have trusted my leadership.

Born and raised in Wales and now living in Melksham, Mrs Hall will soon start her new job as headteacher of Amesbury CE Primary School.

“I’m proud of the children at Cherhill,” Mrs Hall added. “They are all so well behaved and engaged, and it’s them I’ll miss most of all. The school is in a small community so I know all the children by name, know many of their siblings and families, and can remember some of them being born.

“The leaving assembly was very moving: the children had prepared poems and songs and presented me with a photo book of memories and cards, flowers and presents.

“Amesbury is much bigger so it will be harder to know everyone as well, but I’m looking forward to the new job and to a different set of challenges.”

Helen Lammin, deputy head at Cherhill said: “Mrs Hall has dedicated the past 11 years to making Cherhill such a vibrant, warm and positive place for the children to learn and flourish.

“As head she always embodied our school motto and strived to give 'Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day'. Staff, children and parents said a sad but fond farewell and thank you at last week’s leaving assembly – the children in particular will miss her smile and hugs! Cherhill School won’t be the same without her.”
