WILTSHIRE Police’s finest young cadets were honoured for their achievements at an awards ceremony at Trowbridge Civic Centre on Tuesday.

A total of 80 cadets from across the county gathered for the special occasion to see awards given to the most improved cadet of the year, unit cadet of the year and High Sheriff cadet of the year.

Trowbridge cadet Samuel Emery, dubbed as ‘Mr Consistent’ by his cadet leader, scooped the town’s cadet of the year gong and the High Sheriff award for being a role model to others and being part of the Wiltshire Youth Safeguarding Board.

“This means the world to me. I love what I do and it is great to see that recognised. I have wanted to be a policeman for a long time and this just strengthens my desire to do that,” said the 16-year-old, who goes to St Augustine’s Catholic College.

“I cannot wait for the next few years, it will be a very exciting time.”

The Swindon cadet of the year was Luke Harris, for Chippenham it was Charlotte McTaggart, Tierney Walker won it for Salisbury and the Swindon cadets won the first ever Community Patrons Cup for raising £2,588.68 for homeless charities.

Deputy Sergeant Gill Hughes said: “These youngsters could be the future. The passion and commitment for the cause is plain to see. They are so enthusiastic.”

In the most improved category, Sinaed Whelan won it for Swindon, Katie-Mae Gilbert for Chippenham, Erin Blackburn for Trowbridge and Tom Vaughan for Salisbury.
