HUNDREDS of mud-soaked competitors clambered over 32 gruelling obstacles across 10km around West Ashton terrain for the second edition of the Rood Rampage on Sunday.

The assault course at Rood Ashton, organised by Corsham-based Extreme Events UK, saw the 500-strong runners wade through filthy water, take on an inverted two and a half meter wall, 16 floating platoons on the lake and a 20 meter warped wall at the finishing line.

Race director Ben Coleborn joined scores of other spectators to cheer on the brave runners in what proved to be a hugely successful day once more.

"It was just a fantastic day out. Everyone had a brilliant time, I got a fair few muddy hugs from very happy runners and the weather was not bad either, which was great," he said.

"It was amazing to see the camaraderie that everyone has, willing each other on to get over another obstacle, help out a teammate and get over the finish line.

"This year everything ran a lot smoother, it was better organised and less stressful. I am still feeling pretty broken right now however after me, Alex May and Henry Parker, put the obstacle course together in the last couple of weeks.

"It took a huge effort but it really paid off. The course is really accessible for spectators, who made a lot of noise cheering on their friends and family.

"The weather was quite overcast so it was not that bad but as it is an exhausting course people at times just fall into the water as a relief. Seeing people overcome these challenges is wonderful to see.

"We hope they will be back again for another Rood Ramage next year."
