CHIPPENHAM Town manager Mark Collier was able to field virtually two different sides each half, only James Guthrie starting both, as his side drew their opening pre-season friendly at Frome Town yesterday.

After a quiet opening quarter of an hour the first chance fell to Frome on 17 minutes when a cross from Chas Hemmings was headed against the bar by Jake Jackson.

Four minutes later Bluebirds’ trialists striker Josh Williams beat two defenders before shooting just past a post.

On 25 minutes Jon Davies found Darren Jeffries but the Frome winger mishit his shot and it bounced up into Darren Chitty’s arms.

Two minutes later Williams got behind the Frome defence but his low cross saw Matt Smith fail to control his shot.

Frome took the lead on the half hour when Jackson rounded Rhys Baggridge and ran on to slot the ball past Chitty.

Williams then won the ball on the edge of the area before shooting wide whilst at the other end Jeffries’s shot was blocked.

Smith headed over the Frome bar whilst Williams’s shot from a central position was off target.

Just before the break a cross from Davies saw Jackson flash a headed effort wide.

Chippenham hit their equaliser three minutes after the break when Andy Sandell was fouled in the area by Sam Teale and Sandell converted the resultant spot kick.

On 78 minutes Jackson’s shot on the turn cleared the bar, whilst George Miller’s shot from distance was wide.

The final five minutes saw a lot of Bluebirds pressure with the best chance coming when Dave Pratt found Scott Donnelly but Kyle Phillips made a good falling save.
