A GROUP of Malmesbury Rangers rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty when they picked up eight bags of litter along the Malmesbury Bridges walk last week.

The girls, who missed out on the opportunity to help with the Great British Spring Clean in March, took themselves off in two groups as part of the Look Wider programme.

Ranger leader Gill Shaw said: "We were not able to participate in the Great British Spring Clean, so we decided to go out and do our own litter pick. We picked up everything from crisp packets to cans and bottles and lots of food waste.

"The Bridge walk is in two loops, so both groups went in different directions and had a little competition. They really enjoyed doing it and they enjoyed the walk too. They were very enthusiastic about the challenge and cleaning up the town for the community."

Most of the rubbish was discovered in the urban parts of the walk, while surprisingly, the countryside was mainly litter free.
