THE spirits of a young boy from Warminster who is currently in remission from leukaemia could not have been much higher after he gleefully handed over a £500 cheque to thank a hospital for treating him.

Finn Martin, five, finally got to present the cheque, which was raised from a cake sale at Minster School in May, to staff at the Piam Brown children’s ward at Southampton Hospital, a place he goes to every 12 weeks for treatment and check-ups.

His mother Debbie, of Haygrove Close, said her son, who is getting stronger with every day that passes, was thrilled to hand over the money in person.

"He was so excited about being there and giving it to them and they were so happy and grateful for his contribution," she said.

"The staff there have been fantastic to Finn ever since he was diagnosed back in October 2015. His consultant, Dr Jessica Bate, is just amazing, she is the reason Finn is now so well.

"Finn still has to have chemotherapy every day and has to take 60 tablets a week but he is at school full time now and is starting to do things any other kid would do.

"He still has a very weak immune system so he can pick up things easily but he is getting better all the time which is brilliant."
