MUM Debbie Cutler and seven other members of her family took part in a charity Bubble Rush on Sunday to remember her son Tom Bowden who died in Dorothy House hospice last year aged just 33.

His wife Steph and daughter Darcy, five, from Devizes were among those who took on the bubble tunnels as they completed a 5K route at Castle Combe racing circuit.

Mrs Cutler said: "It was all very touching. We shed a few tears and were all quite emotional but it was good fun and such a lovely family event."

Her son, who met his wife when they both worked at Lidl in Devizes, was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in February 2015 and underwent treatment but in October that year the cancer returned and he was told he was not strong enough to undergo further treatment.

Mrs Cutler from Calne, who is a civilian worker at Wiltshire police headquarters in Devizes, said: "At first he didn't want to go into Dorothy House but once he was there he felt very supported and contented. They were wonderful to all the family and were just generally amazing to me, Steph and Darcy."

The couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary just days before Mr Bowden died in April, 2016. Last year Mrs Bowden and Darcy did the Bubble Rush but this time they were joined by Mrs Cutler, Tom's sister Louise, her husband and their children.

Mrs Cutler said: "We as a family can never thank Dorothy House enough for everything they did for Tom, their kindness and care was outstanding and we will continue to support Dorothy House in whatever way we can.”

The bubble rush which attracted more than 1,600 entrants has raised more than £50,000 for the hospice and is one of its biggest fundraising events of the year.

Three waves of runners and walkers set off at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm and ran, walked and danced their way along a 5km route filled with five bubble stations full of white, pink, yellow, blue and green foam. At each bubble station a high-powered foam cannon blew out huge clouds of coloured foam for runners to play and jump around in. The third wave at 2pm was started by 2020 Olympic hopeful Jo Muir, a Modern Pentahlete and Sports Ambassador for Dorothy House along with her boyfriend and fellow Modern Pentathlete Jamie Cooke who competed for Team GB in the Rio Olympics in Summer 2016.
