ARMED Forces Day on Saturday was celebrated with a well-attended ceremony at the war memorial in Royal Wootton Bassett town centre, where a contingent from REME, based at MoD Lyneham, was on parade and the standard of the Royal British Legion local branch had a central role.
Speakers included Lieut Col Daryl Hirst, Officer Commanding 8 Training Battalion REME. He spoke appreciatively of the phenomenal welcome the soldiers have received in Royal Wootton Bassett. "Together we can achieve great things," he added.
The Mayor, Coun Steve Bucknell, quoted the town motto: "We honour those who serve."
All were welcomed by the RBL President Brian Kingscote and chairman Tom Blundell. Prayers were led by the vicar, the Rev Canon Jane Curtis, who also read a poem, Let's Honour Our Military.
