A bramble jungle which has blighted a Trowbridge pre-school for years has been cleared to make way for a working garden.

St Thomas Pre-School, in York Buildings, received £3,000 from a Tesco 'bags of help' scheme in January and has been working on the overgrown plot of land since mid-March.

The weeds and brambles have been removed by Jack Heard Garden Design to create space to grow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables.

"It looks unrecognisable now. Our bramble jungle that has been here for far too long has finally gone," said pre-school leader Lisa Jackson.

"The closer the work got to being completed, the more excited everyone got and now that it is finished, the kids are so excited about growing lots of lovely things in the garden.

"Some of our children don’t have a garden at home so it will be lovely for them to be able to access the new outdoor area at pre-school.

"I am so grateful for all the people who gave up their time to help out. We are all looking forward to growing our own produce and then wolfing it all down."
