DEVIZES Mayor Nigel Carter joined members of an over 50s club to help members celebrate the group's 65th anniversary.

Mr Carter cut a special cake in the Cheese Hall at the Town Hall last Wednesday (21) to help mark the occasion.

Anne Coxhead, who is chairman of the Over 50s Club, said: "It was a really lovely afternoon. We are very pleased the mayor could come along. We are always looking for new members. We are a very friendly club and it would be a good way for new people to the area to meet people.

"We have bingo and refreshments every Wednesday afternoon and we also organise outings."

The club meets at 1.15pm for about two hours. Mrs Coxhead said: "We usually have about 25 to 30 people come along of different age groups. We have some in their 80s and 90s and others are in their 60s. Everyone mixes together very well and are welcoming to new people."

New members are welcome to just turn up at 1.15pm on a Wednesday at the Cheese Hall.
