A MAN who has admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply will not be sentenced until after a trial to establish the truth behind why he had the drugs.

Daniel Payne pleaded guilty to possession on the basis that the drug would be pooled amongst his mates in a stag party.

But prosecutors say they do accept his and a friend's version of events and will require evidence to be heard by a judge, Swindon Crown Court was told.

Payne, formerly of Calne but now of Stoneleigh Close, Chippenham, was found with the drugs on November 11, 2015.

He admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply and simple possession of cannabis.

Gemma White, prosecuting, said that the Crown do not accept that the drugs were simply for sharing at a stag do.

"The Crown's position is the sheer amount of drugs and cash suggest this is more than social supply," she said.

Andrew Stone, defending, said that he accepted his client faced a sentence of 'years rather than months'. but pointed out the sentencing category was a 'wide range'.

Judge Tim Mousley QC said "There may be something that affects the length of it."

He adjourned the case for a hearing of fact to be held onJuly 10 and released Payne on bail until then.

At an earlier hearing 32-year-old Ryan Nicholls, of Frome, Somerset, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and ecstasy with intent to supply.
