A TEENAGER was left shaken after two men attempted to rob him outside the Esso garage in Chippenham yesterday morning (Wednesday).

Police are appealing for more information after two men assaulted the 17-year-old, who sustained injuries to his face and ribs, in the subway on Bath Road and attempted to steal the Sainsbury's bag he was carrying at approximately 11am. The men then ran in the opposite direction.

Detective Constable Adam Fleetwood-Brown of Central CID said: “This was understandably a frightening experience for this young male, who did not know the offenders.

“Unfortunately we don’t have a detailed description of the two men but we know that they would have been heading towards the town centre, past the Esso garage, shortly after 11am this morning. This is a main road and there would have been passing traffic and members of the public in the area.

“I’d like to ask anyone who may have seen these men to please contact police. We’d like to reassure members of the public that we are carrying out a robust investigation into this incident which will include CCTV analysis from the local area, but we need any information from the public which could help our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or on Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
