WILTSHIRE finished fifth of six teams in the English Men’s County Championship qualifier at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club as South West Week continued yesterday.

The county, the national 2011 and 2012 winners, carded a combined 24 over par total to finish down the field as host county Somerset booked their place at the national finals later this summer with a dominant performance.

The qualifier was incorporated into the South West Amateur Championship and South West Youth Championship, with Wiltshire's top performer being Ogbourne Downs' Jake Bolton, who shot 69 and 70 to finish one under par.

Broome Manor's Tom Law (72, 69) shot a one-over-par total, with Jack Seaman (+4), Garry Slade (+5), James Cooper (+6) and Jamie Amor (+9) completing the county effort.

Wiltshire, skippered by Cumberwell Park's Ali James, lost their opening two Inter-County championship matchplay fixtures against Dorset and Somerset and were continuing their campaign against Devon today.
