The British carvery chain, in County Way, opened for business on Thursday, with staff holding a special presentation to mark the occasion.

Along with them, mayor Deborah Halik and town crier Trevor Heeks were in attendance, as was Stepping Stones manager Debbie Wickham, who was celebrating the news that the children's centre was the carvery's local charity it would support.

Mrs Wickham said: "We are absolutely delighted that Toby Carvery have chosen us as their local charity to support. Their team came down a couple of months ago to look around and they were incredibly enthusiastic about the work we do here.

"It was a very pleasant surprise to know that a big company like this is so keen to support a little place like ours. We are very conscious that there are a number of great local causes so we are honoured that we were chosen.

"Discussions are ongoing in regards to what fundraisers they have got planned and we are definitely keen on taking the children their one day, it will be a real treat.

"The Kings Arms pub do quizzes for us every month and now we have got this as well it is just brilliant, we are so thankful."

The restaurant, which has employed 45 new members of staff, will be holding a number of fundraising events to boost its funds throughout the year.

The carvery, which was doing guest bookings only from Thursday to Sunday, officially opened to the public on Monday.
