PARENTS who were worried that a new bus area would make it difficult to park outside a Devizes primary school have won a partial victory.

Wiltshire Council has reduced the parking restrictions proposed for roads close to Nursteed Primary School after carrying out consultation.

A council spokesman said: "After consultation it is proposed that the restrictions are reduced to leave a section of parking near to the school whilst still ensuring the roundabout is kept clear at all times.

"The section of restriction in Brickley Lane and Little Coate will be reduced down from the initial proposal. The restrictions on the length of Windsor Drive will remain the same."

School business manager Mandy McPhee, who is also a former parent of Nursteed Primary, said the school was pleased that the parking restriction that would have prevented parents leaving their cars on a track next to the school has been lifted.

She said: "The original plan would have meant that parents would have had to park further away on the housing estate which might have caused problems. We are glad that the changes have been made to the proposal."

At the time of the original proposal headteacher Tim Heath said that the school did want the council to make improvements for coaches and buses that need to park near the school but felt the original proposal had gone too far.
