WORK to improve the tow path in Devizes between Cemetery Road Bridge and Town Bridge has begun and is expected to be completed by June 27.

During the work the path will be closed to walkers and cyclists and it will not be possible to moor up at the locks although they will remain passable.

Originally it was planned to start the work in March but it was put back so it did not interfere with Easter and the May day bank holiday.

A spokesman for the Canal & River Trust said: "Some moorings will remain open and will be managed on site dependant on the operation being carried out. Our contractors will work with boaters to ensure safe access.

"Canal & River Trust is also aware that events will be taking place during this time period and will endeavour to make the towpath safe for users at these times."
