FRIENDS of a Pewsey mother who urgently needs a double lung transplant took a 87-mile charity walk in their stride over the bank holiday weekend in an effort to get more people to register as organ donors.

Caroline Dale, of St John's Close, Pewsey, and her brother Richard Dyer set off from the Ivinghoe Beacon, Buckinghamshire, at 5am on Saturday and finished their Ridgeway Walk hike at Overton Hill in the Marlborough Downs on Monday at around 1pm.

After finishing their walk early, the pair headed to Barbury Castle where they were greeted by Pewsey local Emma Harris, who has cystic Fibrosis and is seeking a double lung transplant, and friends and family for a celebratory picnic.

"It was a really challenging but enjoyable fundraiser event and I am delighted that in just a few short days we have raised more than £2,200 for Live Life Give Life and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust," said the Mrs Dale.

"We were joined by different friends on stages of the journey which was lovely. It was wonderful to see Emma at the end for the picnic, she was so grateful and I am so grateful to the people that have donated and hopefully more people will sign up for the register donor so Emma can get that transplant she needs."

Mrs Harris, of Raffin Lane, said: "The walkers did really well and the picnic was just wonderful. We had a great turnout and to have raised this much is brilliant in such a short period of time."
