A COMMUNITY transport organisation has been given a helping hand in its fundraising after a Calne supermarket awarded it thousands of pounds.

Calne and District Link, which provides voluntary transport links to surgeries, hospitals and shops, was awarded £3,258 from the Co-Op store in Mill Street as one of the charities supported by the Co-Op membership scheme over the last six months.

Chairman Frank Rumble said: “This money will enable the Link scheme to continue offering help with transport and caring for those in need in the SN11 post code area. As chair, I also pass our thanks to all the Co-op members and the store staff for their support for this needed charity.

"This money will make up the deficit of the 5p a mile that we no longer get from the council. Over the last year, the groups in Wiltshire have covered more than 920,000 miles, which equates to 37 times around the equator.

"Our service usage remains pretty stable but this money is going to be very useful in making sure we can continue to provide our service."

Calne and District Link has also been selected as the store's charity again for the next six months so that it can continue to provide a vital service in Calne and further afield.
