The closure of the Lloyds branch in Corsham is nothing short of a disaster for the town.
With the ever expanding MOD and the large housing developments that are being built, not to mention all the large and small businesses in the town, to leave us with no bank and just two cashpoints is an insult.
I know of many small businesses who are customers of Lloyds, myself included, who still get paid in cash or by cheque and do not have the time to travel elsewhere to pay in; not everybody banks online.
Tourists too require the services of a bank to change money and travellers’ cheques and with no means to do so this will inevitably lead to a drop in this important area. The bank promised to consult with the town, and surprise, surprise, this has not happened.
A solution would be for the bank to open a micro branch, something they already do, with machines for paying in cash and cheques and just one person and a room where for other business a manager could visit by appointment. There are premises available that would suit, including one in the shopping centre 50 yards from where they are now.
Please reconsider Lloyds, we are shareholders and to deny us your services is not in our best interests.
