A BIRTHDAY card with a heartfelt message from a father seemingly trying to make amends to his daughter has appeared out of the blue on a Chippenham resident’s car.

Tom Newey found the pink envelope addressed to a “Johanna” on his car more than a month ago and has since tried to find if anyone knows of her whereabouts, but with no luck.

Inside the envelope is a 60th birthday card with a note which reads: “Dear Johanna, I didn’t want things to turn out as they did.

“There was faults on both sides, I would like to have a good communication with you and put the past behind us.

“Please let it happen, love dad.”

Mr Newey, who has lived in Marshfield Road for more than 40 years, said: “I thought I better open this because it was left on our car.

“My reaction was this guy was probably in his 80s or so and I felt that this was something that ought to be attempted to be solved.

“I must have gone to 30 houses both on Park Lane and in Park Terrace which is nearby asking people if they knew anything.

“I can only visualise that the father is not necessarily local but it’s very heartfelt and that’s why I spent over an hour looking for people.

“I’ve had one or two people come up to me and say ‘have you had any joy with that card?’”

As well as checking with other houses in the area, Mr Newey’s neighbour, Sheena Bellinger, also took to social media to expand the search and try to get leads.

She said: “I put it on Spotted in Chippenham on Facebook and people have posted on it but nobody is able to come up with who she is, we’ve not had any leads at all.

“If she’s in her 60s he must be in his 80s and it’s kind of a last chance.

“Someone said to me ‘maybe she doesn’t want to talk with him?’ and I said we have to try and give her that opportunity because obviously he’s trying to find her. It’s quite emotional.”
