A MARLBOROUGH pensioner has died after collapsing in the High Street yesterday afternoon.

At around 3pm, the 65-year-old woman suffered a medical episode and was bleeding heavily before she died near to the RSPCA shop.

Members of the public called 999 and assisted with first aid at the scene.

They also assisted officers and paramedics by holding screens to prevent onlookers witnessing treatment being administered.

Community coordinator PC Teresa Herbert said: "I would like to thank those members of the public who came to this lady’s aid and called 999, as well as those who assisted when police and ambulance crews arrived on scene.

"This was initially reported as a suspected hit and run but having analysed CCTV footage from the area it is clear that this was in fact a medical episode with no suspicious circumstances.

"This was a distressing and upsetting incident for those members of the public who were first on scene – we’d encourage these people to talk to close family and friends if they are feeling upset, or if you are particularly worried, please speak to your GP for further support.

"Our deepest thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this very sad time."
