MEMBERS of the ladies team at the Marlborough Golf Club gleefully handed over a cheque of £3,200 to Macmillan Cancer Charity to cap off an impressive year of fundraising.

On Tuesday, ladies captain Jill Hunter, 69, and fellow members handed over the cheque to Macmillan's fundraising manager for Wiltshire, Steven Goodrick, after 12 months of various charitable events.

Some of their fundraisers included golfing competitions, raffles and dinners and Mrs Hunter said the team were delighted to have raised the sizeable amount.

"We were thrilled to hand the cheque over in person and Mr Goodrick was very grateful for the work we have done," said Mrs Hunter.

"Everyone was really happy that we raised so much for a great cause. We have done a lot of enjoyable fundraisers over the last 12 months and now that I will not longer be captain I can enjoy a bit of a rest.

"One unexpected bonus that helped to increase the amount we raised was when I was asked to do 11 oil paintings of the golf course, which was bought by other members.

"We have a lot of very generous members and I am sure we will have another good year of fundraising for this year."

Mr Goodwick added: "We are so touched and grateful for the team for raising such an outstanding amount of money. The work that they have done over the year is wonderful. They deserve a pat on the back."

For the next 12 months, the ladies team have chosen Julia's House as their charity of the year.
