THE Corsham Band did themselves proud after coming second in a competition at the West of England National Championships.

The team travelled to the Rivera Centre in Torquay last week and finished as runners up in the South West third section bands and because of that they have been invited to the National Finals this September in Cheltenham.

They competed against 17 other brass bands at the competition and to get to this stage they have now gone up against 107 bands across the country.

For their performance they played the piece Darkwood, composed by Dan Price, and they received a shield and banner - only two or three bands from each region make it to the national finals.

The band which formed over 140 years ago plays in local fetes, concerts, private and public functions.

The highest quality section is the championship section, which contains the very best bands in the UK, and the fourth best is the third section, which is the one the Corsham Band play in.
