PLANS for two new houses and an apartment for first-time buyers in Lacock have been dismissed by a planning inspector following an appeal.

The application by Ellerdine Developments, which would be on land at Pen-y-Brook, Notton, was previously rejected in August 2016 by Wiltshire Council on a number of grounds.

These included that it would be based in a rural location outside any recognised development, there were a lack of services and transport, and it would have an impact on the area and residents already living there.

Inspector Veronica Bond made the decision to dismiss the appeal on Tuesday (March 21).

She stated: “The proposal would not result in harm as regards the character and appearance of the area or highway safety and would afford adequate living conditions for future occupiers.

“This does not outweigh though the development plan conflict and harm found related to the proposal failing to represent a sustainable pattern of development.

“Indeed, the adverse effects would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits stated.”
