BANDS, comedians and entertainers are being urged to come forward and volunteer for a charity performance to help support a Chippenham charity, which provides drinking water for African villages.

Charity WellBoring are hosting 24 hours of music and entertainment across Chippenham to try and raise £4,000 and build another well for a village in Kenya.

Formed in 2010 by Chippenham’s Colin Brown and Nigel Linacre as well as Corsham’s Graeme Vousden, the charity has helped more than 20 communities and villages have clean water.

“I was organising leadership journeys and it happened that they [Colin and Graeme] came along and we went to Kenya,” said Mr Linacre, aged 59.

“They thought they could fix the water problem in a village and after that we got together at the Angel Hotel in Chippenham and we thought let’s do it, let’s form a charity.

“We completed the well for that first place in 2011 and since then we’ve helped 22 communities, including 12 last year.

“We usually go for a school because that’s a focal point of a community.

“The results are dramatic, illness falls from over 20 per cent to 2 per cent in schools, enrolment goes up as more go to school, and results improve while water is shared with local communities.”

Performances will take place from 10am-10pm on May 6-7 at The Cause, Rivo Lounge and The Old Road Tavern in Chippenham.

“It’s the first time we have done something like this but we have had a lot of interest already,” added Mr Linacre.

“At least one of those venues will have a performance on at any one time and some places might overlap.

“We’re not going to charge anything for entry but we will be doing collections when acts finish.

“We would definitely feel really good about it if we got £4,000 and we’re hopeful more people will get involved from the event with the charity.”
