RUSHALL Primary School may have just inspired many of their pupils to become engineers after hosting a hugely successful design and engineering week.

For each of the five days, pupils enjoyed a whole host of educational talks, practical exercises and day trips to learn about the wonderful world of engineering.

Whether it was designing a toy buggy, a visit from Wessex Water, making paper aeroplanes, heading to Devizes to talk to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance or talking to the Winchester Science Society, everyone had a great time, according to headteacher Marion Harvey.

"The children had a fantastic week where they learnt a lot about everything to do with engineering," she said.

"They designed and made a lot of different things and were treated to a real mix of exciting things to do and learn about.

"Everyone knows that a child's dream is to throw the best paper aeroplane possible and they got the chance to do that in a scientific setting which they loved.

"So far the feedback we have had from parents has been very positive. It was really good to make the children realise that the things they learn in school can really help in an engineering career.

"It was great to see so many children interested in this sort of thing and it has certainly sparked an interest in something they may not have known that much about."

The pupils also worked with staff from Airbus to learn about building a satellite and parents came in last Friday to see the finished buggies and enjoy racing them.
