THE red carpet will be rolled out for five pupils at John Bentley School after their short film was nominated for a national award at the Into Film Awards.

Megan Gilder, Thomas Giles, Edward Satchell, Louis Stephenson and Keaton Wares have been invited to the awards ceremony in Leicester Square on March 14 after their film Beyond Earth was nominated for the Into Space and Home category for under 12s supported by the UK Space Agency.

The five film makers, who have been attending a weekly film-making club at the school, were challenged by their teacher to produce a short film in just two weeks and the results were out of this world.

"It is a massive privilege to be nominated for an award, we didn't expect it," the pupils said. "We are excited to attend the ceremony in London and to meet the other participants. It was a fun and amazing process to make this film with our friends."

Designed to recognise, showcase and celebrate young people's involvement in film and education the Into Awards, now in its third year, will bring industry professionals and young people together and shine a spotlight on their achievements.

Judged by a panel of industry leaders including Stephen Mangan and Ed Skrein and hosted by popular TV and radio presenter Edith Bowman, the night is set to highlight the very best of student film.

Paul Reeve, CEO of Into Film, said: “Each year we are very excited to come together at the Into Film Awards to celebrate young people’s achievements in filmmaking and reviewing, and their passion for film. It’s always inspiring to receive their entries, which reveal an incredible array of skills, creativity and imagination.

"We are very pleased to be able to provide a platform to showcase and celebrate their work, and alongside this to recognise the skill, passion and commitment of teachers and film clubs that are enriching their young people’s learning and lives by engaging them with film.”
