GUIDES, Brownies and Rainbows from Marlborough put their cooking skills to the test when they spent an evening in Savernake Forest to celebrate World Thinking Day.

A total of 60 girls, age five to 14, headed to Postern Hill, to cook their own hot dogs and toast marshmallows as part of the special day, which honours Girl Guides and Scouts across the world.

This was the first time the three groups have come together, for what they called their Sausage Sizzle on February 21, for a scavenger hunt, parachute games and a sing-a-long, before the feast began.

"This was the first time all three units got together and it was a huge success - we all had a brilliant time," said Rainbow unit leader Rachel Hilliar.

"I have to say I was very impressed by some of their culinary skills. The little ones were a bit apprehensive to try and light the fire so the Guides stepped in and did a really good job.

"They came into their own however on the marshmallows, everyone loved that as you can imagine. We also ran out of marshmallows very quickly which was not surprising. It was nice to have a toast to our fellow Guides and Scouts across the globe too.

"I want to thank all the parents who helped out, they were brilliant and the other units too for putting on such a memorable evening.

"We certainly hope we can do more things together as it was nice to see each of the groups getting on so well. Even if it is just once every term, everyone would really look forward to it."
