HEALTH Secretary Jeremy Hunt has supported plans for for the new Devizes Urgent Care Centre.

Mr Hunt visited Marlborough last week meeting Devizes MP Claire Perry and members of the Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group for a discussion about NHS winter pressures and the care centre plan.

He was told that the centre will offer same-day appointments for urgent health issues and help to relieve pressure on GP practices around Devizes and reduce visits to the A&E departments at local hospitals.

A planning application has already submitted to Wiltshire Council and detailed operating plans for the centre are in preparation.

Ms Perry said: “After so many years of local campaigning, our Devizes Urgent Care Centre plans are making great progress and this endorsement by the Secretary of State for Health is really valuable.

"Huge thanks go to everyone who has worked so hard to get to this stage - the people of Devizes and nearby villages are a step closer to getting the healthcare services they need, and I know we are all determined to make this a reality.”
