A ROAD closure of Chippenham High Street on Friday mornings which has been causing traffic chaos according to motorists and residents has been lifted.
The proposed 12-week trial, which began on January 13, has lasted only six weeks will be lifted as of next Friday (February 24) after councillors voted unanimously to lift the closure at a Chippenham Town Council planning meeting yesterday.
The closure had been brought in to try and make the High Street safer for market stall holders setting up and pedestrians using the route.
Councillor Teresa Hutton said: “It’s fair to say we all came to this with the best intentions, to protect the market stall holders and pedestrians, but I believe the trial has gone on long enough and I do think we need to look at the bigger picture.”
