CHILDREN at Christian Malford Primary School found their inner voice as they performed classical songs in front of teachers and their parents.

The 76 youngsters received training and help from classical singer Sam Young, who previously visited the school in January.

Since then the school had been rehearsing several songs prior to their big performance, which took place on Friday (February 10).

“It’s been really good, the children are really good singers and it’s something they should be exploiting much more and they’re very responsive,” said Mr Young.

“Music was introduced to me when I was very young and I started singing when I was 16 or 17-years-old.

“Classical singing and in general, the main thing about it is the power that comes from it.”

The children sang Any Dream Will Do and We Are The Young while Mr Young also performed Lord God Of Abraham.

“You could see the children in our rehearsals mimic Sam and realising that they can try out and use their voice,” said Vivienne Tugwell, music coordinator at Christian Malford Primary School.

“I think it’s definitely had an impact and Sam has been a great role model.

“Our music curriculum encourages live performances, so we have got to have someone who could come in and perform, it’s been really good.

“Singing is a good thing to be doing and during our recent Ofsted inspection, singing was highlighted as integral in our school.”
