POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the leg in Devizes this afternoon. 

Paramedics rushed to the aid of the 35-year-old in Monday Market Street at 12.30 and took him to hospital while police searched the area.

A 24-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing grevious bodily harm with intent following a vehicle search on Windsor Drive.

He remains in custody at Melksham Police Station.

Acting Detective Sergeant, Michelle Hilton said: "An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and it is very early on but we believe that this was an isolated incident and that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

"We would like to thank the members of the public who have already helped us with our enquiries and would encourage anyone else who has information to come forward.

"I would also like to praise the excellent work of the team, those officers who gave first aid to the victim and those who very quickly located the suspect."
