WILTSHIRE and Swindon Sport (WASP) Level 3 Winter School Games competitions got off to a fine start with the girls’ basketball competition held at St John’s Academy.

Refereed well by Walter Amos and Carl Williams, with Young Sports Leaders from St John’s keeping score, St John’s principal Nicky Edmondson made the presentations of shields and medals as the host academy wrapped up the victory.

In second place was Commonweal, from Swindon, with St Edmunds completing the podium.

Fourth and fifth were Bishopstrow and Matravers.

St John’s member of staff John Pearson is the girls county basketball coach and is running training sessions for girls during March for U14s.

Meanwhile, this year’s New Age Kurling Level Three School Games competition was hosted for the third year by Lavington School.

The final placings were close, with just two points separating the top four.

Westbury Leigh and Devizes 2 could not be separated so shared third place, with Avon Valley College 1 winning the event from St Joseph’s.

Rob Paget and Matt Pearson from Wiltshire Council delivered the event, with the support of the 20 young leaders from Lavington School.

Lisa Adams, Head of PE at Lavington School, made the presentations.
