A GROUP of friends in Minety will be running their very own three-day festival in the summer, in the hope of raising money for local good causes, developing community spirit and promoting grassroots music.

The music fanatics first came up with the idea eight months ago, and it gathered momentum and gained local support.

Now early bird tickets for the festival, which will take place at Kinches Fields from Friday, June 30, until Sunday, July 2, are on sale.

“Being part of a small community is about giving something back and the idea came to us about eight or so months ago,” said Paula Power, one of the organisers. “We started talking about it and saying wouldn’t it be amazing and it just took off. It has progressed and it is actually a reality now.

“At the moment There are about six to eight of us that are working on it and it will be a not-for-profit festival. We hope to put every bit of money we make back into our charities, which are Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Naomi House and Jacksplace.”

Following on from the success of WOMAD and Boondocks, the organisers are hoping to attract around 500 people per day with a wide variety of music, workshops and activities.

Who's Next, a tribute to English rock band The Who, will be headlining the stage on Friday night, while 80s rock group Doctor and the Medics will draw the crowds with their hit cover of Spirit in the Sky and others on Saturday night.

“We have a big name there to draw in the crowds but it will be a real diverse mix of local music,” Mrs Power added.

“Friday and Saturday night will focus on the adults and the youth while Saturday morning and Sunday will focus on the children and the family element.

“Above all, Our festival will have a strong sense of community spirit, be a collaborative experience and full of enthusiasm.”
