FORMER Mayor Sarah Bridewell has fulfilled her promise to pay for two more defibrillators to be put in place in Devizes in the hope of saving lives.

Mrs Bridewell who was Mayor in 2014/15 chose the British Heart Foundation as one of her charities after a close relative died from a heart attack.

She said at the time: "I chose the BHF because my mother-in-law died suddenly from a heart attack. I am hoping to raise enough money to install two more defibrillators in the town centre."

Now that wish has come true after defibrillators were placed on the Green and at Hillworth Park.

Deputy town clerk Simon Fisher said: "Throughout her Mayoral year Sarah raised money for a number of charities, one was the British Heart Foundation.

"After consulting with local fundraiser Tony Bachelor to see how the money could best service the Devizes community, it was decided to purchase two defibrillators.

"The sites chosen were the Green and Hillworth park as they are both sites where large numbers of the community gather from time to time for events."

Devizes electrician Jamie Gale from G & H Electrical installed them free of charge. He said: "Sarah asked me if I would be involved quite a while ago and I was happy to oblige."

The Town Council now has information about where all the defibrillators are in Devizes on its website http://www.devizes-tc.gov.uk/community-events/14-devizes-community/148-defibillators-in-town.

Mr Fisher said: "Whilst the defibrillators talk a user through what they need to do, we have also uploaded a short video on how to use them for anyone who might be interested to know in advance."
