THOUSANDS of people will flock to Burbage this weekend for their hugely popular annual Christmas tree sale and market.

The 22nd edition of the event, featuring 50 stalls, music from local choirs, activities and refreshments, is being held on the green at the All Saints Church, Eastcourt, on Saturday from 9am-4pm and Sunday from 9am-2pm.

The 2015 event attracted more than 3,000 people, which led to 700 trees being bought and nearly £20,000 for local causes being raised.

Families can take advantage of the wide variety of trees on offer, from spruce to non-drop and potted varieties.

Organiser George Gordon said: "We have become well known for the great atmosphere, excellent Christmas Market and quality of our trees. Last year we had someone travel all the way from London to buy a tree from us and they have already said they will be back again this year.

"More than 50 volunteers are needed to make the event the success it is and people from all over the village are involved in one way or another, from transporting trees to baking cakes and making decorations."

The donations that will pour in will go to the All Saints Church, Burbage Primary School and the village hall.

The local scouts, cubs and beavers have been kept busy of late, making nestboxes to sell at the tree sale and market and Burbage Brownies and the Savernake Forest Scout Group are also getting involved.

Simon Neate and Alison Cook, directors of Soft Options Water Softeners, the local company sponsoring the event, said: "We have been the main sponsor for the Christmas Tree Sale for two years now. It is an amazing village event which attracts more visitors to Burbage and raises much needed money for local causes."

MP Claire Perry will also be joining the scores of volunteers, helping to sell the trees as well.
