CHRISTMAS would not be Christmas in Devizes without the flamboyant display of lights outside the home of Joe and Jenny Hughes.

The couple have been lighting up their house in Waylands for 13 years and Mr Hughes thinks this year's extravagant display is one of the best ever.

They are raising money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance but Mr Hughes said his main motivator was to see the looks of children's faces when they come to see what he has done.

He said: "I have eight grand children of my own and I love to see the joy on the children's faces. It makes it all worthwhile. I have had a lot of good feedback this year.

"I have bought quite a lot of new lights and lasers and it is looking fantastic. Lots of people walk around to see it and make a donation while others just drive past for a look.

"Last year I raised about £500 for charity and I would like to do do the same but I am not sure if I will or not. But it has become a tradition and I don't want to let people down.

"I have kept on over the years even though I am 60 now."

He said his wife was just as keen on the displays and loved seeing their semi-detached house lit up.

This year neighbour's Julia and Leanne King have also got in on the act and are raising money for Dorothy House. Mr Hughes said: "It is good they are doing it as well as it makes it extra special for people to see two houses all lit up."
