GROOVY ghouls and gals got down on the dancefloor as part of a free family fun day organised by Swindon Dance.

Sessions on jazz, Bollywood, krumping, a type of street dancing, and a Halloween monster mash saw people of all ages put on their dancing shoes to have a good time at the town hall in Regent Circus.

Rong Fu was with her four-year-old daughter Arwen. She said: “It’s the first time we have tried Bollywood and it was great.”

There was also free face painting, a photo booth and a comical performance by 2+1, as well as some sweet treats to keep families entertained and energised.

“We put on the fun day every year,” said Clare Fantini-Stephens, marketing and communications officer for Swindon Dance.

“This is our fifth year, it’s free and all the family can join in. It’s also an afternoon out and they get exercise and to try a class.

“It’s been really successful. You never know with days like this if people will turn up or if we get too many people, but it’s been just about right.

“Hopefully they will come back and try a class as it is raising awareness of who we are and what’s inside the building.”

The highlight of the day was the Halloween monster mash-up. Those taking part got to pick a ball with a number, which corresponded with a dance move such as ghost, witch’s spell and zombie to create a dance, led by teacher Zoe Humphries.

“It’s dance by chance,” she said.

“It’s really about trying to give people a fun experience. It’s also about trying to find something that appeals to quite a wide range of people.”
