CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan spoke of her support of the Homelessness Reduction Bill at the House of Commons today (Fri) which has passed its second reading without a vote.

The Homelessness Reduction Bill proposed by MP Bob Blackman aims to reform current law to ensure more people get help before losing their home.

During her passionate speech Miss Donelan spoke of the importance of prevention and the bill which was key to improving the system currently in place.

Charities such as Shelter and Chippenham's Doorway Project were also mentioned by the MP as key organisations in the fight against homelessness.

In her most recent column for the Gazette and Herald, Miss Donelan said: "I am pushing for additional funding to be directed to councils and charities. We need a change in the law to prevent more people losing their home and to make sure all homeless people can get help when they need it, while councils and charities need the funding to make this work."

The bill, which passed its second reading in the House of Commons, will now face detailed scrutiny in the Committee Stage.
