ANGELS, shepherds and wise men are required by Calne Town Council for a Guinness World Records attempt for the most living figures in a nativity scene.

The challenge will form part of Calne's annual Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade on December 3 and will be followed by the town's switch on and fireworks finale.

Event organiser Tracy Howell, Calne Town Council, said: "We are thrilled to be bringing a Guinness World Records attempt to Calne, and invite all members of our community to register to take part in what will be a very special and one-off event for our town, which we will remember for years to come."

Residents with an SN11 postcode are only eligible to register for the Christmas-themed record attempt, which is being sponsored by the Swindon-based Bible Society Chief Executive Paul Williams of the Bible Society said: "We are delighted to be involved in Calne’s Christmas Festival. The Bible story of Jesus’ birth is at the heart of Christmas and we are thrilled that people of all ages will be taking part and experiencing one of the world’s best known stories with a fresh perspective."
